Advice for Pregnant Women During Lockdown

During this time of of isolation and lockdown it is incredibly challenging for women expecting a baby. Pregnant women are usually offered support, advice and reassurance throughout their pregnancy by midwife appointments at the baby clinics as well as ante-natal classes and pre-natal parent groups but sadly at this time of social distancing these avenues are not easily accessible.

Take this time to relax, unwind and try your best to think positively.

Here are our positive steps to help you and your baby during lockdown.

Keep Calm and Relax

It is essential for both you and your baby to look after yourself during pregnancy. Take this time to relax, unwind and try your best to think positively. Maybe take this opportunity to lose yourself in a good book, take a relaxing bath or enjoy an afternoon nap.

Connect with Family and Friends Online

This is the perfect way to stay connected with loved ones everyday via Skype or Zoom. This will help you if you are feeling isolated or suffering with anxiety during pregnancy.

The internet is a welcome resource to make friends and connect with new parents all wanting to share their pregnancy journey, offering reassurance, inspiring confidence and positivity.

Fitness and Healthy Eating

During pregnancy it is really important to eat healthily and enjoy a balanced diet this also includes drinking lots of water to keep you hydrated.

Exercise is great for your mental health as well as your physical wellbeing. Try to get out for a little walk every day or enjoy some sunshine in the garden. Many women enjoy pregnancy yoga as a perfect way to relax both mind and body.

Essential Pregnancy Purchases

At this time shopping for pregnancy essentials and baby products will be a virtual experience. Although sometimes you may be limited on choice due to availability, many companies are offering extended return policies for parents who may need to exchange or return products post-lockdown.

I would recommend only ordering the essentials for you and your baby and then look forward to visiting your favourite baby store once the lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

Anxiety and fear at this time is a very natural reaction but its important to remember to stay positive and try to switch off from the world, focus on you and your wellbeing and look forward to welcoming your little one to the world!
